Here's
some background information about our venue:
MUSIC
VENUE:
Our tea house and bistro is a SMALL, comfortable and
intimate music venue. We are in an historic 1930s Main
Street home, a small farm house with an Oak barn-wood
fence (90% recycled old barn-wood) surrounding an
open-air music garden. Our capacity inside is 50 and our
outside music garden holds 150. Combined we can support
over 200 guests. We've been open since June 2001. One
year later, summer of 2002 was our first experience with
an outside stage (constructed almost entirely with
recycled wood and built organically, over time). Our
outdoor stage is covered, but only available weather
permitting from around the end of April to the beginning
of October. We have music inside in our living room in
the event of bad weather and during the cooler months.
Many incredible, intimate shows have been performed in
our living room. Some of our regulars actually prefer
seeing musicians in the smaller space, and performers
have also enjoyed playing the room, so we always give
artists the option of playing inside even during nicer
weather.
Currently
we host live music at Soul Infusion on Friday and
Saturday evenings with Thursdays added during the summer
months. Traveling musicians are welcome to come in on any
Tuesday or Wednesday night to pick up a set, jam with
other musicians, or just hang out.
AREA
GEOGRAPHY:
We are located in a 1930s farm house in SYLVA, a small
mountain town in western North Carolina in the Great
Smoky Mountains. The population here is as diverse as it
is Bohemian. About five thousand live here (give
or take a few) and we are right smack dab in the middle
of the Natahala National Forest in the center of the
southeastern United States. Atlanta is just a 2 1/2 hour
drive south of us, Asheville is just 45 minutes to our
east, Knoxville, TN and Winston-Salem, NC are both about
2 hours, and Cherokee, the entrance to the Great Smoky
Mountain National Park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are
just 20 minutes fom our front door. Here in the
mountains, we live and play true to the roots of
Appalacian culture. Our small family friendly music venue
hosts a variety of talents from all over the United
States. From Portland, Oregon to Boston, Massachusetts
the touring music acts playing in our venue are all
roots-based, mostly acoustic oriented (we do stray off
this one occasionally) and are all a part of our family
now.
Our
music venue is located at 628 East Main Street (which is
also known as NC 107 or Highway 107) in Sylva, North
Carolina between Sylva Tire and UPS. We are set back from
the road a little bit, so look for our SOUL INFUSION sign
(wrapped in red rope lights) and the bright red 1955
Chevy pick-up truck parked out by the road (an old
hand-crafted locust post fence seperates the '55 Chevy
from the road). Oh, and park in the back of the
house (closest to our main entrance and load-in area) if
you can find a spot, otherwise anywhere in front of the
house is fine.
About
the proprietors of Soul Infusion Tea House & Bistro:
Jason is
Resident
Philosopher, Tea Purveyor, Ordained Minister, Community
Promoter, Music Director, Loving Husband and all around
nice guy. Soul Infusion's promotion, community outreach,
music and entertainment booking is handled through Jason.
He considers Soul Infusion to be a grand experience (or
maybe experiment) in theology, philosophy, sociology,
anthropology and some sort of musicology. Quantum physics
probably falls in there somewhere. He enjoys experiencing
all kinds of music, from all parts of the globe. He loves
multi-dimensional music rooted from the heart and soul.
Karin is
the Head Resturanteur, Divine Female, Resident
Psychologist, and Executive Chef here at Soul Infusion.
Before undertaking on this tea house and bistro project,
Karin worked in the mental health profession also had her
own catering company. She specialized in concert and
festival catering, backstage hospitality and event
planning. Her degree is in Psychology, yet her passion
has always been food with a focus on feeding people (and
their soul).
She has
catered for hundreds of performers including some very
memorable meals including: Snake Oil Medicine Show, Bela
Fleck and the Flecktones, The Larry Keel Experience,
Tater, Soundtribe Sector 9, and even Run DMC and Sir
Mix-A-Lot. She will definately make sure you're well fed
and energized for your performance.
Musicians
eat compliments of the house on their performance
evenings, and each performer gets a reasonable number of
complimentary drinks. Other payments and guarantees are
negotiable and should be discussed ahead of performance
date.
